Who is Katalist?
The future of maritime shipping
The future of maritime shipping is already here, and we’re leading the way. We believe that real change comes from empowering people to act. Every ship that sails on sustainable fuel today is a step toward a transformed industry tomorrow.
Katalist is a non-profit platform providing tailwinds for the sustainable shipping transition by providing companies with the independent and trusted solutions they need to decarbonize their cargo today.
Developed by The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and RMI in collaboration with 29 organizations across the value chain, Katalist is dedicated to providing credible, transparent and applicable solutions that benefit the entire maritime industry.
We understand the stakes are high — this is about reshaping the entire maritime industry and moving away from business as usual. Our non-profit status ensures that our focus is solely on driving real, measurable change while remaining committed to our core mission of sustainability. We offer deployment-ready solutions for leaders who choose to act now, allowing them to be at the forefront of innovation and become pioneers of a new, sustainable era in shipping.
This isn’t about offsets or temporary fixes. It’s about genuine decarbonization, with fuel deployment and tech innovation at the heart of our mission. The future is already being written, and we are here to ensure that everyone — leaders and followers alike — has a part to play in it.
The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping was founded in 2020 as a not-for-profit, independent research and development center looking to accelerate the transition towards a net-zero future for the maritime industry.
With our partners, we drive and facilitate the development and implementation of new technologies; build confidence in new concepts and mature viable strategic ways to drive the required systemic and regulatory change.
RMI is an independent nonprofit, founded in 1982 as Rocky Mountain Institute, that transforms global energy systems through market-driven solutions to align with a 1.5°C future and secure a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all.
We work in the world’s most critical geographies and engage businesses, policymakers, communities, and NGOs to identify and scale energy system interventions that will cut climate pollution by at least 50 percent by 2030. RMI has extensive experience in market-based measures, including setting up chain of custody systems in the natural gas sector with MiQ (a solution to purchase low methane leakage gas), in the aviation sector with the SAFc Registry and SABA (Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance), in steel with Sustainable Steel Buyers Platform, and ongoing work in cement and concrete.
Energy Web is a software company that builds digital solutions to help businesses navigate the energy transition.
Our products unlock business value from investments in corporate sustainability, clean and distributed energy resources, and grid digitization, and help companies thrive in a low-carbon future.
